Saturday 9th May - Kakadu
Jamilah: Today we went from Darwin to Kakadu. It was a car journey and we stopped of at particular places on our way. The first place we stopped at was like a field and it had huge termite mounds in it. The termite mounds were called magnetic termite mounds because they were always facing north south. Then we went to a place called Fogg Dam where Mummy spotted some crocodiles lying on the river bed. We saw lots of wildlife too, mainly birds. Then we went to a place where we saw cathedral termite mounds which were massive and six to eight times my height.
Whilst we were driving along the road we saw some controlled fires. We had lunch and then we went for a boat ride on the South Alligator river. We saw lots of crocodiles, but not alligators. The reason it is called the Alligator river is because a man came along and saw the crocodiles and thought they were alligators. We saw an eagle sitting on a tree branch with an eel tailed catfish dangling from its claw. Then we went to an aboriginal cultural centre where I got my boomerang from and Teddy got his too.
